For those who are looking forward to a possible remaster of Fallout: New Vegas, prepare to be deeply disappointed. This was revealed by none other than Fallout: New Vegas writer and former Obsidian creative officer Chris Avellone.
This news was first reported by PC Gamer citing a video interview of Avellone with TKs-Mantis. In that same video, Avellone revealed that Bethesda Softworks didn't have the "engineering knowhow" to do that remaster. The report went on to say that it's because Bethesda didn't have the source code. According to Avellone, the very last milestone for developer Obsidian Entertainment was to submit that source code to Bethesda for $10,000. It appears though that Obsidian didn't do that. The report went on to say that while Bethesda may have the code, Avellone said that they may not be able to reassemble it.
Fallout: New Vegas was released in 2010 and made available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It's also available on PC and right now can be accessed through Steam. The game was developed by Obsidian Entertainment after being contracted by Bethesda to come up with a spin-off game in the Fallout series. Las Vegas, Nevada, was chosen because the surrounding Mojave Desert, as a setting, evoked the 1950s imagery that the series was known for. In addition, it had that post-apocalyptic setting of Mad Max.
Fallout: New Vegas was deemed a commercial success and is estimated to have sold about 11.6 million copies around the world. Critics praised the writing and quests though there were questions on the of significant gameplay changes especially when compared to Fallout 3. A bunch of downloadable content was released for the game that included four story-based additions which introduced new areas for the player to explore. Despite being a spin-off, it has since been considered as one of the best games in the Fallout franchise.
Fallout: New Vegas is set in the Mojave Desert and 204 years after a nuclear war that decimated much of the United States. Players take on the role of a courier who survived an attempted killing by an unknown assailant. In addition to a main goal, there are also side quests that players can take on, though they're optional.
What do you think? Should a remaster of the game be released?
