Walkthrough forDark Sun: Shattered Lands

Part 1: Escape from the Slave Pens

Slave Pens

  1. Talk to the girl (Gailia). She will dismiss you because of a headache. If needed, you can rest in the eastern cell on a circle of stones.
  2. Talk to the Trustee. Get him to open the door to the cook.
  3. Talk to the cook; lead him to the girl. He will heal her. Talk to the girl again to get the location of the secret door.
  4. Open the secret door by pushing the button on the north wall. Pick up the gem in the room beyond.
  5. Talk to Mirlon. You will have to fight before you can give him the gem you found. He will help you escape, but he is in fact leading you into a trap. Once you get past the Slavepen Master, you can either make a run for it to location 7 (the sewer entrance) or kill the head Templar at location 6 for the magic sword Bloodwrath.
  6. Templar. He carries the Bloodwrath and is the secret patron of Mirlon. If you talk to him and agree to his deal, he will lead you into a trap.
  7. Sewer entrance.

Sewers

  1. You will appear here. Doors in the sewers are operated by turning the wheels. If you threaten the thugs they will leave you alone. You can talk to their chief, but if you accept his quest to kill the other Tari (ratmen), don’t do it. Proceed to location 2.
  2. Talk to the chief of the other ratmen tribe. Accept his quest to free his daughter. If you talk to him about the Skull Temple, he will give you a bone crank you can use on broken wheels to open doors. There is no point visiting the Skull Temple yet. Proceed to location 3.
  3. Talk to the madman. Refuse to take part in the sacrifice. Kill him and his followers. Free the chief’s daughter and take her back to location 2. Make sure she is with you when you pass through the gate to the ratmen’s area — if you leave her behind, they will think she is dead. Talk to the chief again. Fight the followers of the madman around the Skull Temple; the chief will then give you the Helm of Contemplation. Go to the Skull Temple at location 4.
  4. Open the Skull Temple with the bone crank. Talk to one of the skulls. Take one of the bowls beside the skulls. Search the drain at location 5 for the Staff of Parting. Go to location 6 or 7.
  5. (See location 4 above.) Search the drain here for the Staff of Parting.
  6. (Optional) For extra experience and magic items, travel to Dagolar’s area. Use the Staff of Parting here to make the waterfall disappear.
  7. Exit from the sewers. Kill the guards and exit to the Fields Outside Draj.

Dagolar (Optional)

  1. Here you will meet the Gatemaster, who is in fact Dagolar. He will teleport away if you try to harm him, so let him join. Don’t worry if he is killed in a fight. Go to location 2.
  2. Kill the guards and collect no fewer than four Hound Amulets. Equip one on each character. Go to location 3.
  3. With four Hound Amulets equipped, you can open this door. In the large room above (location 4) a major fight with slimes and shadows awaits. Go to location 5.
  4. (Combat encounter — see location 3 above.)
  5. Open the door. If the Gatemaster is still with you, he will stay outside. Talk to the zombie inside; have him take you to Dagolar. He will make the Gatemaster leave once you exit his cell. Go to location 6.
  6. The zombie will walk through the fire and deactivate the fire gateway. Go to location 7.
  7. Dagolar will kill the zombie and his helper, then attack you with slimes. Kill them for good experience. Loot Dagolar’s treasure. Return to the sewers and exit at location 7.

Fields Outside Draj

  1. The man here will give you a gem if you agree to help him. Do it. Place the gem in the obelisk at location 2 and leave it there. You should leave this area promptly after.
  2. Place the gem in the obelisk here.
  3. Old One Eye will help you only if you escaped the sewers through the secret exit (not the main route described above).
  4. The fruit merchant here sells healing fruits.
  5. Exit into the desert. Kill the five or so guards by the gate and head out.

Part 2: Locating the Village

Outside Area J — The First Desert

  1. When you first arrive, the man you likely rescued from the fields will be killed by a bullette. Kill the beast, read the scroll from the dead man’s body, and talk to Ergus. Learn the location of Teaquetzl and travel north to reach it.

Teaquetzl

  1. Talk to the mayor. Accept his quest. Go to location 2.
  2. Collect your reward from the chests. The +2 Swiftbite sword is in one of them. You can also rest here.
  3. The well.
  4. Visit the visionary and speak with him to receive the Llod’s Rod (a teleportation device).

Part 3: Looking for Allies

Outside Area G — The Salt Fields

  1. Fendon the salt merchant wanders this area. You can buy salt, but it has no practical use.
  2. The pathwalker is a psi-bracelet merchant. Follow the brown pattern on the ground three times back and forth until you earn 500 experience points. Talk to the pathwalker again; you can now buy magical bracelets from him.
  3. After threatening the announcer at location 1 of Outside Area L, dig in the eye of the dragon with a shovel to find treasure (Aposs’s Heart and a scroll).

Outside Area A — The Threatened Oasis

  1. Talk to the Druid of the Waters and pledge to rid the oasis of the defiler. Go to location 2.
  2. Attack the Templar and his guards. This fight is lengthy but manageable. Once they are all dead, return to location 1 and talk to the druid for experience and the location of a treasure in Outside Area I.

Outside Area B — The Hotsprings

  1. Kill the Templar and all soldiers around the hotsprings for experience.

Outside Area F — The Courier

  1. As you approach the courier, he will send slaads after you. Kill them, then attack the courier. After killing everyone, read the Messenger Scroll from his body for experience.

Outside Area L — The Pond and Arena Announcer

  1. Talk to the announcer and threaten to kill him unless he reveals the location of a treasure. The treasure he describes is at location 3 of Outside Area G.

Outside Area H — The Painted Badlands

  1. Alagorn wanders this area. He will identify magical items for you and, when the conversation ends, give you a Wand of Metal Detection and a gem for the obelisk at location 2.
  2. Place the gem in the obelisk here.
  3. If Father Garyn in Teaquetzl has asked you to bring him some rankike pith, you can obtain it from Notaku at this location.
  4. Donami the animal trainer is a fraud. He will sell you the mastyrial for a bag of salt, but the moment you try to leave the area it will run off and return to him. Don’t bother.

Outside Area K — The Caravan

  1. Go to the broken wagon. Attack the mageras to the south before they kill the prisoners. After defeating them, talk to one of the prisoners. Go to location 2.
  2. Attack the magera guards. Talk to one of the prisoners. Take them all back to the wagon at location 1. Once they are reunited, wait for the warriors to return. When Kalinin (the group’s leader) speaks to you, ask him to join your alliance. You will also receive a hornblade sword.

Caravan

  1. Kel sells magical items, but most are worthless. The only noteworthy items are the axe Soulcrusher and a gem for the obelisk at location 3.
  2. Do not drink Tobrian’s wine — he will rob you of your items.
  3. Obelisk. Place the gem from Kel here.
  4. Visitors’ circle. Talk to the woman here for background information.

Outside Area I — The Ruins and Entrance to the Wyrm

  1. Talk to the Rogue Shaman. He will take you to location 2.
  2. Defeat all the shadows in the ruins. You can recover El’s Ring from the ground — this is the treasure the Water Druid mentioned in Outside Area A. You do not need to return to the ssaurans; they will attack you to claim you as their new spirits.
  3. The skeletal head is the entrance to the Wyrm. This is optional but offers plentiful experience.

Wyrm — Level 1 (Optional)

  1. Talk to the slave at the entrance. Ask him to take you to his leader.
  2. The slave leaders will offer an alliance, but the game does not provide the correct dialogue option to accept, so you will have to fight them.
  3. At both exits you will be attacked by shadows.

Wyrm — Level 2 (Optional)

  1. You will be contacted by Balkazar, warning you to stay away.
  2. A Thri-Kreen attacks you.
  3. A Babau attacks you.
  4. Some Babaus are tormenting a magera. Attack the Babaus before they kill the magera. Have the magera take you to Balkazar.
  5. Balkazar will speak to you and offer an alliance. Refuse — even if you accept, you end up fighting him. During the fight, do not strike Balkazar directly; he cannot be harmed that way and will only summon more monsters. Instead, immediately move to the triple mirror in the adjoining room and attack it three times with your sword. Note: the mirror will damage you, so ensure you have enough hit points. Once the mirror is destroyed, Balkazar can be hit and killed.
  6. Raid Balkazar’s treasure rooms, guarded by three vrocks. The Light of Dawn and Belt of Might are found here.
  7. Teleportal. Step in and proceed to the teleportal to the north (defeat a Styr first). Then take the teleportals in this order, relative to where you appear: East → South → North → West → East. Collect the Draketooth. Step into the teleportal, defeat four Styrs, and teleport back out.

Part 4: Allies of Cedrite

The Village of Cedrite

  1. Talk to Chaya, the village chief. Speak to her respectfully and she will apologise and give you the gem for the obelisk at location 6. Accept the quest to rid the area of bandits. Go to location 2.

  3. To enter the caves, examine the large rock to the north and use it, then walk to the opening.
  4. You can join the second-in-command for a hunt at location 5 for extra experience.
  5. Hunt location — kill the creatures here for extra experience.
  6. Obelisk. Place the gem from Chaya here.
  7. Entrance to the underground temple.

The Caves

  1. Talk to one of the First Folk. Go to location 2.
  2. Talk to one of the Rebel Folk. You can accept their quest to kill the spiders, but don’t — it is not the correct approach. Go to location 3.
  3. Talk to the Outcast. Accept his quest to lift the curse. Have him help you over the cliff at location 4.
  4. (Cliff crossing — see location 3.)
  5. Shoot or attack the wall. Kill the red slaads that appear.
  6. Equip the four Nagi’s Necklaces, one on each character, for protection against the evil entity. Retrieve the golden pendant from the chest in the corner. Go to location 7.
  7. Talk to the queen. Accept her quest to destroy the entity.
  8. Wait near here for the prince. Agree to help him overthrow the queen. Go to location 9.
  9. Kill the evil spiders guarding the hole. Place the golden pendant from location 6 in the hole to destroy the entity. Return to location 7. The queen will attack — kill her and the mages with the prince’s help. Talk to the prince, agree to take him to the rebels, then go to location 2. Convince the rebels the prince wants peace and ask them to help you enter the castle. Go to the Outcast at location 3 to claim your reward: a silk armour.
  10. Retrieve the queen’s treasure from this room (attack the screen with the sword icon).
  11. Go to the castle entrance with one of the Folk.

Castle — Level 1

  1. Attack the guard before he can open the wyvern pens. Go upstairs.

  1. Kill the earth elemental guarding the door and open it.
  2. Talk to the druid. Agree to help him. Pick up the key from the ground. Go to location 3.
  3. Use the key from location 2 here.
  4. Kill the wyvernmaster. Take the Wyvern Hook from his body and the green key from behind his bed. Use the green key on the door at location 5.
  5. Collect the treasure. Return to location 2, give the druid the Wyvern Hook, and receive the wind potion. Go to location 6.
  6. Kill Tara and the zombies. Immediately after the fight, use the wind potion to destroy her for good. Return to location 2 for directions to additional treasure, then go back down to Level 1.

Castle — Level 1 (Return)

  1. Use the wind potion anywhere on this level for 500 experience points.
  2. Talk to the zombie. Examine the jug in the north-east corner. Retrieve the snake boots and equip them on one character.
  3. Kill the vrocks guarding the treasure. Examine the north wall from close range — with the snake boots equipped, it will open. Retrieve the Dark Flame Sword at location 4. Use Llod’s Rod to teleport back to Cedrite.
  4. The Dark Flame Sword is here.

Cedrite — Return

  1. Talk to Chaya again. Secure her pledge to commit warriors to the alliance.

Part 5: Allies of Gedron

Gedron

  1. Talk to the mayor. He will reveal that the village is controlled by the mage Wyrmias. Accept Wyrmias’s quest to recover two statue pieces. Note: to complete this quest quickly and without bloodshed you will need approximately 35,000 copper pieces. You can sell items to the merchant of Gedron, northeast of the well.

Outside Area C

  1. Talk to Arant, the camp leader. Pay him for the gladiators. Go to location 2.
  2. Tell the gladiators to await your return.

Outside Area D

  1. Proceed to the circle of drummers, killing any guards in your way. Go to location 2.
  2. Lying beside one of the tents is a grappling hook. Pick it up. Go to location 3.
  3. Use the grappling hook on the broken part of the bridge to cross it. Proceed to location 4.
  4. Enter the serpent mouth and click on the island where the girl is chained to the rock to walk there. Talk to her (Jasmine) and free her. Defeat the Slit Horror and Daraken. Pick up the statue piece from Daraken’s body. Talk to Jasmine again; she will give you scrolls and a spellbook. Follow her to location 5.
  5. Collect the scrolls and spellbook. Return to Gedron.

Gedron — Second Visit

  1. (See location 3.)
  2. Talk to Linasa. Give her Jasmine’s spellbook. She will reveal the location of Wyrmias’s treasure. Go to location 4.
  3. Talk to Wyrmias by the well and give him the first statue piece.
  4. Examine the tapestry on the wall and open the secret passage. Proceed to location 5.
  5. Examine the rug and bash or pick the safe beneath it. Retrieve the Metal El’s-Drinker and other valuables from the safe.

Outside Area E

  1. Talk to the Ssaurans and pay them 18,000 copper pieces for their statue piece. Return to Gedron.

Gedron — Final Visit

Part 6: The Final Battle

Teaquetzl — Return

  1. Talk to the council again. Rest at location 2. When you attempt to leave, the visionary will stop you and order you to go to the ruins. Head out.

The Ruins

  1. Make your way to Cragg. There will be traps and monsters, but regardless of what they say or do, it is all deception. Talk to Cragg and agree to bring him his body in exchange for the Genie Bottle. Go to location 2.
  2. This is a fake body — it will teleport away when approached. Step into the teleportal after it. You may need to walk slightly closer to the wall, as the graphic can appear misaligned.
  3. Make your way here. You will be attacked by Pseurons and masterials. Retrieve the body and teleport back. Return to location 1, talk to Cragg, and follow him to location 4.
  4. Place the body on the centre pier in the mausoleum. Pick up the Genie Bottle and use it. You will receive three wishes. For the most effective result, choose: “Help me defeat an evil army” — this grants an enchanted Nekode and eliminates one wave of monsters. Prepare for a hard fight.
