Bandai Namco Entertainment America announced that Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster are now available for the PC via Steam. In addition to the improved visual fidelity, the remastered collection also introduces new game play features when compared to the version released for the Nintendo Switch last year.
There’s more good news since this remastered collection is being offered at a 10% discount for a limited period.
Unique Mechanic
The main feature of the Baten Kaitos series is what’s known as the Magnus Battle System. This is a unique card-based mechanic where cards are dealt from the deck with the attack power being based on the attributes as well as the combination of cards available. There are real-time battles where players need to think on their feet and make quick decisions to claim the victory.
The series has players take on the role of the Guardian Spirit and guide the protagonist and their companions through unique adventures in each game.
Improving the Gameplay
Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster improves the gameplay of the original titles by introducing new features and settings which support the game progression. One of these is the “Instant KO” setting where players can beat enemies with a single attack. There’s also the “No Encounters” setting where players get to avoid battles.
The Original Titles
In Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, players get to experience the story of Kalas. He’s seeking revenge on the death of his brother and grandfather. Along the way he meets Xelha and the two go on a journey to overturn the Alfard Empire.
Baten Kaitos Origins meanwhile is set 20 years before the events that happens in the first game. This time the story involves Sagi, a “spiriter” which is said to have a connection with Guardian Spirits and is part of the Dark Service, an elite unit of the Alfard Empire. Sagi sets on a journey to clear his name after being framed and along the way learn about the secrets the empire is hiding.
