Challenge Battles Mode Introduced to Card-en-Ciel with New Update

The second major content update for Card-en-Ciel adds to the game what's known as the Challenge Battles Mode. This new gameplay mode has players join in battles where they have to complete challenges using only the cards, along with Muses, that are provided at the start. Since the deck is always in the same order, that means there is no randomness present.

What is the goal for this? In a statement, INTI CREATES revealed that the puzzles were made to test the knowledge and limit of the players. If they fail to complete the challenge, there's no need to worry. That's because they'll be able to retry it as often as they want. If they ever get stuck for some reason, they can always ask for hints from Ancie with no strings attached. For each Challenge Battle cleared, players can get one "Parallel Card" for use.

Parallel Cards

Now the next question that some of you may have would be what is a Parallel Card. It's basically a new version of an existing card with the difference being that players can enable it before entering into dungeons. Parallel Cards replace the original once players receive them in a dungeon or battle rewards. According to the studio, this should allow for "new experiences and strategies."

Players can always return a Parallel Card to normal from the base menu and that means they can enable or disable them as they see fit. They can find their favorites to customize the game to fit their playstyle or pick and choose the ones they need to help get a new high score.

QoL Improvements

The new update, which is being dubbed as version 1.2.0, adds new quality of life features. Highlights include:

  • Players can now save and load Wild Card presets.
  • Accessibility options have been added which include auto-success on Action mini-games.
  • Unobtained cards now appear with a special mark and this appears after clearing the main story.

Card-en-Ciel is a card-battling and roguelite RPG that features more than 300 unique cards and 50 vocal songs. The game is available for the PC via Steam.
