XSEED Games announced that the release of Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion has been delayed to 2025. Initially the game was to come out sometime in the fall of this year. The main decision driving the delay was to improve the quality of the game.

The game follows the story of three high school friends as they explore the Amare Est Vivere Hospital. Nemu Takanashi is a streamer hoping to increase her subscriber count and testing a local urban legend. Accompanying here are Haruka Nanami and Maria Hitsugi.

Unfortunately, it appears that the legend of “Ayame’s Mercy” is true and now the three girls have triggered a decades-old curse that sends them into a dark realm. Now they must do what they can to try and avoid the vengeful spirit of Ayame Kirishima along with other horrors from the dark past of the hospital. To survive, they’ll need to find a way to dispel the curse of Ayame.

Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion introduces to the franchise new characters and a new setting. There’s also a new curse, and a new look. Players get to explore the fully 3D-rendered halls of the Amare Est Vivere Hospital. They can do it in third-person or for those brave enough for a closer look, a first-person perspective.

It is this new perspective that complements the visual novel-style storytelling of the series. This is then combined with the gruesome descriptions and spine-tingling binaural audio that’s accompanied by the original Japanese voiceovers. There’s a total of six chapters along with eight additional scenarios. What that means is that there’s going to be a lot of ways for players to reach the wrong endings.

Ayame Mercy Edition

Physical pre-order in standard and limited-edition “Ayame’s Mercy” versions are now available. The “Ayame’s Mercy” edition comes with a copy of the game that has a reversible cover. It also has the Amare Est Vivere ‘Medical Kit’ metal case that measures 8” x 6” x 4.5”. This metal case contains:

  • spooky ‘Ayame’s Mercy’ lenticular art card
  • ‘Save Yourself’ LED blue candle styled after the in-game save points
  • 64-page artbook
  • ‘evidence kit’ containing journal pages
  • Nemu Takanashi business card
  • hospital PSA flyer

The “Ayame’s Mercy” edition is offered at $79.99 with the Standard Edition priced at $49.99.

Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion is releasing for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
