Drowned Lake is All About Fishing with a Dash of Horror & Survival

What do you get when you put horror in a fishing game and add some survival elements? It's a game known as Drowned Lake which is being worked on by indie developer Monumental Collab. The game is inspired by the legends and nightmares of Brazilian folklore with players challenged to discover the truth through a mystery that's told from three unique perspectives.

A Twisted Story

The game is set deep in the coastal forest of Brazil. Drowned Lake is an area of folk tales and legends and it's one where those who trespass have never returned. The twisted story begins when a student in his twenties named Bento goes missing in this sinister place. Players get to explore their surroundings in a boat and from a top--down perspective. They'll need to collect evidence using a fishing rod and solve puzzles in first-person adventure-like segments. However, it's important to keep in mind not to disturb the troubled waters too much.

A Passion for Weird Horror

Drowned Lake builds on the success of the studio's Our Lady of the Drowned Lake, an original nautical horror experience developed for the 2022 GMTK Game Jam. The development team has long had a shared passion when it comes to weird horror and have actually produced multiple experiences for game jams over the years. The studio's most recent released was the free found-footage horror game titled as TELEFORUM.

A Non-Linear Horror Story

This non-linear horror story is told from three perspectives which is that of a firefighter, a journalist, and an elderly fisherman. In addition to uncovering more about the mystery, you'll also learn the true motives of each character. To learn what happened to the missing individual, you'll need to collect evidence and discover what lies under the surface. You can do this by exploring, fishing, investigating, and even solving puzzles.

Aside from solving those intricate puzzles, you get to experience the true terrors that the darkness hides through the first-person POV sections which are clearly inspired by escape rooms and classic horror games.
