Indie developer Silent Games announced that its complex action RPG Empyreal is all set to make its debut on May 8. The game is going to be available on consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It's also coming out on PC via Steam where a 10% launch discount is to be offered. For those not sure, a free demo can be accessed through Steam.
Empyreal offers a feature-rich action RPG where players can explore an imposing Monolith and fight to survive against the guardians that lie within. They can try and uncover a complex narrative that combines mythology, philosophy, and transcendental revelations. A game overview video has been released where none other than creative director Joseph Rogers offers a peek into the mechanics and narrative of the game. Get to watch the video here.
Gameplay & Combat
In the game, players get to choose from one of three weapon archetypes which are The Glaive, The Mace & Shield, or the Cannon. Each weapon comes with its own core move set and results in having a unique playstyle. It's also worth noting that the game features a unique combination of RPG Systems and Skill-based Combat. Players can master the flow of combat with perfectly timed attacks, deflects, and parries. There are also Abilities that gain additional effects when perfectly timed.
Cartograms
One of the most important and unique features in the game are the Cartograms. These ancient artifacts serve as the blueprints for aspects players encounter in each level inside the Monolith.
Everything is randomly generated. From the enemies that players face, the loot they find, how many lives they get, and even what elements need a matching resistance to. In addition, there are different ways in which each level is different based on the attributes of the cartogram players use to access it. By the way, the levels themselves are all designed by hand with players rewarded for exploring.
Now each Cartogram contains an end boss. The selected Cartogram defines the loot table of the boss along with the chance of a drop. Epic boss battles allow players to target items they may need for future cartograms.
