Developer Courtesy of Endo announces that the official 1.0 launch of Scholar of the Arcane Arts is all set for March 11. This roguelike action RPG has players take on the role of a wizard who needs to use the knowledge and power of the arcane arts to defeat invaders from the five planes of magic.

In the game, the goal of the players is to collect and combine spells. To do this they have to travel across the five planes of magic. Not only do they have to learn new spells but also fuse them together. They also need to find the scrolls of magic, solve puzzles, and unlock secret dungeons full of ancient mysteries. Of course, they have to defeat the invaders before they destroy the realm.

The realm of magic is procedurally-generated and it is here that players get to find and upgrade different spells and even mix them to obtain even more powerful combinations. There are more than 10,000 spell combinations and players can take advantage of the right spell at each moment to counter, disable, and deal massive damage to enemies.

One Man Team

While the Steam page shows the game is being developed by Courtesy of Endo, the studio is actually composed of a one-man team in Stephen Sanchez. He had been documenting the development of the game through a series of YouTube videos. He also made sure to listen to player feedback to improve the game. In a statement, Sanchez shared that it's a dream come true and he thanked everyone who helped along the way.

Key features of the 1.0 version include spell rebalancing which has:

  • Fireball can now combine with other spells.
  • Bubbler can be cast while moving.
  • Seren’s Falling Star requires half as many spell hits to change form.
  • Decaying Touch always poisons.
  • Tar’s Rock cooldown has been reduced.
  • Solaris absorbs more spells per level.

Other features of the full version include less floors which means quicker gameplay. What has happened is that each domain has been reduced from 3 floors to 2 floors. This should significantly lower the time it takes to complete each run.

One good way to describe the game is that it's a roguelike action RPG that's inspired by video games like Magicka and Serious Sam Tormental. Wishlist Scholar of the Arcane Arts on Steam now.
