A few days from now, players are going to be treated to a brand-new experience when A Death in the Red Light officially launches on Steam. The game invites everyone to a noir adventure puzzle game that's inspired by real-life events. It officially launches on September 23.
Players take on the role of a washed-up police detective who's on his last chance at redemption. This chance comes in the form of solving an apparent murder in the most infamous and seedy street of 1988 Amsterdam, which is none other than Zeedijk, also known as Heroin Alley. It's a place where police never enter without any back-up.
A Seedy Underbelly
Players get to experience this seedy underbelly of Europe’s most notorious city. It's a city that's been torn apart by drugs, illicit sex, and even social unrest. Surrounded by urban blight, they interact with different characters. These include the poor and the downtrodden who are trying to survive, the predators of the mob preying on them, and the underfunded, besieged social workers as well as police officers trying to stop this powder keg from exploding.
An Authentic Detective Experience
The game offers a story-driven puzzle experience that was developed to provide an authentic detective experience. It's also been structured to be non-linear. Players get to collect clues, analyze them, and them linked in any order. That means as each player prowls the streets of Amsterdam, their ordeal is different.
It's not going to be easy to solve the case considering that it needs players to meticulously gather and analyze evidence by using various police and forensic techniques. They'll also have to question witnesses, run those ballistics tests, and perform blood tests, to name a few. They may even need to decode cryptic messages. All of this to piece the clues together. Each technique is also represented by a unique puzzle that furthers the investigation.
A Visual Treat
The design of the game is based on the original and critically acclaimed escape game of the same title. However, this game isn't a simple port. That's because it's been rebuilt from the ground up using new graphics and audio. It also features an expanded storyline that offers completely new puzzles. All of these make use of the advantages video game format offers to provide a rather unique experience.
