Mirthwood is expected to come out sometime in the third quarter of this year. The good news is that everyone has a chance to see what this medieval fantasy RPG has to offer with its first-ever public demo. It's now available on Steam.
The Storytellers
According to developer Bad Ridge Games, the game is going to feature AI Storytellers that generate the in-game events as players progress. These include the heatwaves that occur in summer and even travelling merchants. There are selected Storytellers which can directly influence the difficulty of the game. That means players can choose to have a laid-back adventure and farming simulation or go for a dark survival experience.
The studio also mentioned that one of the core inspirations behind the game was inspired by the likes of Rimworld and Fable. What that means is that the Storytellers are going to make sure that each sandbox playthrough is not only unique but also interesting.
Mortality
The game also offers what can be described as an interesting feature. In order to simulate a truly medieval fantasy world, NPCs are mortal and can die from different situations that include severe wounds, illness, and famine. Not only do these NPCs live as real people but even have tangible goals like growing crops and earning money from trade.
With mortality, it allows for the creation of organic stories. That's because it has players build relationships with characters that may die, there are opportunities for them to intervene. Of course, not all lives can be saved. However, when NPCs die that means new immigrants arrive to replace them which in turn leads to fresh friendships.
Mirthwood is an enchanting open-world RPG life sim which combines genres to offer something that's truly special. It has players take on the role of a character who flees a continent that's been swept by war. They've arrived in a new land which offers a fresh start. The game features a rich and fully realized world. This experience is heightened with the gorgeous hand-drawn graphics combined with immersive sound effects and an original musical score.
