A new update has been released for Palia and sees the return to the world of some exciting creatures. The Royal Highlands Expansion brings back horses, said to have been lost along with Ancient Humans.
With this, players can now meet, acquire, and ride their own horse across Palia. In particular, Mounts transform how players move across Palia as it opens up faster and more fluid exploration across the zones. That's not all since Riding has been designed to feel not only grounded but also approachable.
Giddy Up
After arriving in the Royal Highlands, players get the chance to pick up a quest that introduces them to their first horse. This quest is immediately available upon entering the Royal Highlands and not tied to the Main Story progression. That means players are free to complete it no matter where they are in their questing journey.
Once they finish the quest, they should be rewarded with their very first horse. Players can then engage with horse ranching and let them purchase, breed, and raise additional horses with both new cosmetic and functional traits. Horses players breed can be ridden once fully grown though younger ponies need time to mature before they are ready to be ridden.
Different Breeds
The new update introduces several unique horse breeds, inspired by both real world horses and more fantastical ideas. One of these is the Dawnspur, a breed that’s inspired by the American Quarter Horse. This breed was once favored by Ancient Human royalty and originally bred by the Mudan.
Then there is the Akwindu Thoroughbred, an Arabian inspired breed. It can be unlocked by collecting a wide variety of horse traits through breeding. Riding access is granted through the Riding License that comes exclusively in the Highlands Supporter Packs.
Finally, there’s the Phoenixfire Dawnspur. This is for those who are looking for something even rarer. This mythical variant is said to be touched by the Phoenix itself. It has been long thought to exist only in legend and can now be obtained by progressing through Binnie’s side quests in the Royal Highlands. Riding is unlocked via the Riding License purchased in the Premium Store.
