Developer Red Hook Studios announced that new content is planned to be released for Darkest Dungeon II in the coming months. There's going to be free content release and a paid DLC. It's available first for PC versions sometime in late 2024 with those on consoles getting access in early 2025.
New Game Mode
The free update is set to introduce a new stand-alone game mode called Kingdoms. It challenges players to defend their realm from the incursions of new enemy factions. Players can then go across the land on their stagecoach, upgrade their inns, and see if they can defeat the final boss.
Kingdoms is being released in thematic modules with each representing a different threat. The first is Hunger of the Beast Clan which has players tasked with trying to fend off the pitiless onslaught of the rotting and ravenous beastmen.
New DLC
Next year, the game gets its second paid DLC. Titled Inhuman Bondage, it introduces The Catacombs. This is a mini-region that's best described as high risk and high reward. Here players get to fight against a new faction of slime sodden enemies.
This upcoming DLC also sees the return of none other than The Abomination. This new playable hero has a unique battle mechanic which lets him transform into a fearsome monstrosity.
As from new content, a physical edition for consoles is in the works and you can learn more about it here.
Darkest Dungeon II is a rogue-lite turn-based road trip of the damned. Players are invited to form a party, equip their stagecoach, and then set off across the decaying landscape to go on a quest to avert the apocalypse.
It’s a sequel to the critically acclaimed Darkest Dungeon and features new 3D visuals in the same unique style as the original. There’s also a new run-based road trip structure and an enhanced version of the innovative turn-based combat system. Players can choose from a roster of fourteen playable heroes, explore five regions, and fight five end bosses.
