New Demo for Slaves of Magic Now on Steam

Developer Amethyst Dreamers released a new demo for Slaves of Magic. This latest version comes with new features that include a reworked initiative system, new magic-wielding enemies, and a fully destroyable environment. Then there's also the completely rebalanced progression.

Digging deeper into the new demo, one of the major changes is the official support for 2k resolutions. In a post, the studio shared that the game was developed with a maximum 1080p resolution in mind. Over time though it seems that more people have transitioned not only to 2k monitors but even the 4k ones. That said, the studio is hoping to get feedback on those who play using a 2k monitor. For those on 4k monitors, the 1080p is perfect for upscaling to 4k and thus the game defaults to that resolution.

Initiative System

The new demo for Slaves of Magic also introduces a reworked initiative system. Under the new system, the players receive six (6) command points each turn. This can then be used to activate units. Take note that the initiative of the unit is the cost of its activation. What this means is that players can activate more faster units or fewer slower ones. This system should be more intuitive for players familiar with titles like X-COM.

Weapons & Regions

Those who were able to play the game in previous demos should be happy to know that with the new one, weapons are no longer locked to regions. The starting region only defines the starting equipment. This change has allowed the development team to rebalance the weapons and make them more unique since they're always available for players to buy.

Starter School

Another change is that every unit now gets a starter school in their first level up with players being able to choose a new skill from that school. Further level-ups are not affected. As a result, this makes it easier for newer players to learn about the available schools in smaller increments. In addition, it allows players to try out skills they would otherwise not have.
