Tense Games announced that it is all systems go for the full 1.0 release of Stellar Warfare later this year. In particular, a new update has been released that turns the skirmish mode in a full-featured tactical sandbox.
This new update introduces fully-featured CPU commanders for the game in both single-player and multiplayer skirmishes. With this, players can fight against coordinated AI fleets that have unique personalities, strategic roles, and team behavior. Compared to how the AI was implemented in the past, this time around the new commanders no longer rely on hidden economic bonuses or even randomized ship generation. Instead, each CPU faction now builds fleets based on specific doctrines and tactical behaviors. This results in battles that feel more like fighting real RTS opponents rather than scripted enemies.
Other new features being added to the game with the update include a rebuilt multiplayer lobby system, expanded automation features, and 20 new skirmish maps. These have been designed to support larger and more dynamic fleet engagements.
Talking about this latest development, Thomas Vandeven at Tense Games shared in a statement that he had always wanted to create a space RTS that he wanted to play. It's a game that combines massive fleet battles, ship customization, tactical positioning, and true 3D combat. This latest update, he added, marks a "huge step toward the vision."
Stellar Warfare was launched in Early Access back in August 2021. Since then, it has managed to steadily build a dedicated community of strategy and sci-fi fans mainly due to its combination of modular fleet building, large-scale warfare, and emergent tactical gameplay.
Stellar Warfare is basically a classic style RTS that offers ship customization and complete 3D space movement. Players get to find loot, compose their fleet and use it to face off against other players or the AI in this unique sci-fi experience. Enemies destroyed occasionally drop blueprints for ship frames, weapons or modules. These can be used to modify units and compose a fleet.
Get Stellar Warfare on Steam now and see if you have what it takes to destroy enemies and rule space.
