It looks like KARMA: The Dark World is facing a bit of a bump in Japan. Publisher Wired Productions revealed that it seems the game has upset that country's rating board. The version for the PlayStation may be censored.

In a statement, Wired revealed that they've always supported the true, unedited, and original creative visions of the developer, which in this case is Pollard Studio. However, working towards that vision often meant a fight to appease the ratings board. The publisher went on to say that the issue remains with the ratings board and there was no problem with any of the console partners. The changes to be made though would result in the game's Japanese PlayStation release getting delayed.

PC players need not panic since the version for the platform remains uncensored, even the one for Japan. Wired shared that this is mainly because when it comes to PC gaming, it's still "the Wild West."

KARMA: The Dark World is a first-person cinematic psychological thriller that's set in 1984 in East Germany. In this alternate timeline, a group known as the Leviathan Corporation rules with an iron fist. They control the citizens through mass surveillance, social class rules, and mind altering drugs. Then there's also the promise that the gates to Utopia will open to those who serve.

Players take on the role of Daniel McGovern. He’s a Roam Agent working for Leviathan’s Thought Bureau. With the use of advanced technology, he dives into the minds of the accused as he investigates crime scenes, interviews suspects, and reports findings back to Leviathan. They get to investigate the twisted environments of a suspect’s memories and the horrors that lurk within the corners of their minds. Their sanity becomes tested as the boundaries between reality and the surreal blur together.

In addition to a cinematic story, another feature of the game is the use of Unreal Engine 5. This allows the game to push the visual boundaries of storytelling as it combines meticulously detailed visuals of a dystopian reality along with high quality motion-capped acting and mind bending surreal environments.

KARMA: The Dark World is set to be released on March 27 and to be available for the PlayStation and PC. Wishlist the game on Steam now.
