Paradox Interactive is known for releasing games that focuses on running empires. This time around it has partnered with XperimentalZ Games for Escape the Mad Empire. The game offers dungeon-crawling mechanics and combines it with tactical pause combat and base management gameplay.

While no actual date has been revealed, Paradox Interactive revealed in a post that it’s arriving in Early Access on Steam sometime this year. Still, there is some good news since a demo is now available on Steam. The demo gives you access to an interactive tutorial along with a mini-campaign titled “The Curse of the Undead King.” In this one you get to explore three dungeons that’s not only full of threats but has been designed to make sure that your party is hurt “respectfully.” The campaign conclude with you getting into a boss fight versus the Undead King.

Escape the Mad Empire is a rogue-like dungeon-crawling game where you get to control a party of heroes and try to survive in near-impossible odds in various procedurally-generated and apocalyptic dungeons that’s been filled with enemies, traps, and of course, deadly boss fights.

One key mechanic that you can look forward to is the tactical pause system where you get to execute complex strategies in an instant and may even snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. As you try and overcome the threats of the apocalypse, you’ll need to grow your base and fight for survival.

It’s also important to manage the instability of your heroes. You see, the Empire uses crystals to create absurd and cursed items. While these artifacts can give your party that that needed additional strength and prowess, it can increase the instability of the wielder. If this festers and grows, there’s a possibility that you could lose your character for good.
