ACQUIRE Corp. is released a new real-time RPG for the PC in 2024. Scars of Mars offers a real-time Formation Battle where you'll have to face a lot of battles and attempt to escape a research facility on Mars with the crew. The game is being developed by the same studio responsible for titles that include the Way of the Samurai and Octopath Traveler series.
What's the game about? It's December 6, 2158, and a research facility based on Mars has suddenly lost contact and there's no sign of what may have happened. You take on the role of a human commander of a humanoid robot unit and go on a secret mission to rescue survivors and escape.
Formation Battle
The game features formation battle where you get to control four humanoids within a 3x3 grid and make real-time decision on how they act. Each move counts as you get to decide not only which character to control but also what action to perform like attack, dodge, protect, or heal. Because time is always flowing, the game requires tactical positioning and precise timing which results in an immersive, as well as strategic, battle experience.
Character Customization
Customization of each humanoid is possible by combining the different classes, frames, and even weapons. This should allow for a wide range when it comes to variations in the characters. For example, you can choose to have a Fighter who's not afraid to get up close and personal to slash enemies or maybe go for a Sniper who prefers to attack from a distance. Another interesting choice is the Berserker who is good when it comes to close combat but has low defense. Then there's the Healer which is all about defense and support.
Battery Consumption
In the game, batteries are important, and they should always be charged to ensure survival. Now each playthrough has procedurally generated routes which offer different paths. However, you have the ability to select your movements to progress and not get lost. Since each enemy encounter, event, and item container, changes for each playthrough, this makes battery management all the more important.
Considering that battles, events, and route movements all consume time, it gradually depletes the battery. To succeed, you'll need to make precise decisions based on the condition of the party and how much power is remaining in the battery.
