Skill Branching System Introduced to Dicey Tales in New Update

A new update has been released for Dicey Tales and introduces a lot of interesting new content. One of these is the innovative skill branching system. It allows players to choose their skills in a strategic manner and this enhances the game's replayability. That's not all since with more than 84 new and modified skills plus 18 new artifacts added, the tactical gameplay is deepened further.

Still on the skill branching system, what happens is that all characters get to learn new traits or skills. Players can also enhance existing ones at levels 3, 6, and 9. At level 6 in particular, they can choose between two traits. Then at level 9, the effect they receive depends on the trait chosen at level 6.

By the way, developer Superlazy shared that to accommodate the new system, they've had to make adjustments to the skill balance and hero growth mechanics.

Mechanic Expansion

Another improvement is mechanics being expanded so that the role and playstyle of the character now depend on the skill branch chosen by the players.

Here are some of the changes:

  • [Burn] (Updated): Burn now accumulates stacks equal to the damage dealt. Each turn, the stacks decrease by half, and at the start of a turn, damage is taken equal to the number of stacks.
  • [Frost/Freeze]: Frost still prevents movement. When Frost reaches 3 or more stacks, it turns into Freeze, which lasts for 1 turn, preventing action. Damage taken while Frozen is doubled, and the effect is removed.
  • [Enhance]: The next attack deals double damage.
  • [Coordination]: When an ally within range attacks, you attack together.
  • [Counterattack]: When hit by an enemy within range, you counterattack.

Dicey Tales is a highly engaging game that draws upon the nostalgic appeal of traditional tabletop role-playing games and skillfully blends elements of dice roll mechanics and deckbuilding strategies into a roguelike play style. It's built around the simple yet invigorating action of dice throwing, with every roll carrying the weight of players' fate.

While the game does show what can be described as simple game mechanics, it does offers a rich mix of tactics, luck, and player progression, that appeals to a broad range of game enthusiasts - from deckbuilders to fans of classic TRPGs. Get Dicey Tales on Steam now.
