Game publisher NIS America has released a new story overview trailer for The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II. It gives an overview of what happened in the previous game while also preparing players for the upcoming title.
The game is set in Year 1209 of the Septian Calendar. The threat that was posed by Almata has passed and peace has finally returned to Calvard. One day, a CID special forces unit was slaughtered by an unknown assailant. This sets into motion the wheels of fate.
As the authorities work to contain the situation, criminal forces are using this opportunity to make their own moves. Indeed, there are those who want to learn more about the truth while there are those who want to make the most of any new developments wherever possible, no matter how sinister. In the middle of this, a spriggan by the name of Van Arkride starts his own investigation after being prompted by an unexpected visitor.
The Battle System
One of the key features of the game is how it builds on the seamless transition between field battles and command battles which were introduced in the previous game. There are also new mechanics which can be used in both.
The first is Cross Charge. What happens is that when players manage to get a Perfect Dodge from an enemy's attack during a field battle, the icon of Cross Charge appears. Pushing the right button while the icon is on-screen results in swapping with another party member who simultaneously executes a charge attack on the enemy. As a bonus, the party member that's swapped in gets enhanced attack power for a limited period.
EX Chains meanwhile can be activated by fulfilling specific conditions during command battles. Once these conditions have been met, using a craft or normal attack against a stunned enemy automatically activates an EX Chain. This allows party members with SCLM activated to launch a simultaneous attack that also impacts nearby enemies and deals massive damage.
There's no question that those able to master the use of these two combo mechanics are sure to overwhelm any enemy. Anyway, watch the story overview trailer here.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II is coming out February 14 and to be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo. It's also being released for the PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
