Studio Director of ZeniMax Online Studios Matt Firor released a post where he talked about the changes coming to The Elder Scrolls Online. There's a lot to unpack so in this one we'll take a look at the planned introduction of Seasons.
In the post, Firor revealed that starting 2025, the game is slowly going to shift towards a season content model. That means there won't be any more massive content updates done once a year like with Chapters. While there's no specific details revealed, he did say that Seasons are planned to last around three or six months. It's going to introduce a combination of themed story content, events, store items, and dungeons, to name a few.
This looks to be a rather "slow" process so players can look forward to seeing a mix of old and new content. Firor shared that they're actually working on larger items for more than a year now and this is set to be launched in the near future.
However, it looks like one main reason for the shift to season content is to free up the development from the new to stick to a strict annual cycle. This allows the team to launch content once it's ready and at the same time be able to offer a greater variety of content.
Telling Great Stories
Firor assured everyone that while the content release model is being changed, they won't be abandoning new quest content. However, he went on to say that they're implementing it in a different manner. For example, the focus will no longer be on adding those giant new landmasses, though it's still going to happen every now and then. Instead, what the team plans is to use existing zones and areas and then tell new stories. Players can look forward to continuing stories in existing zones for example and see familiar characters being brought back. They can also experience new stories which are focused on some of the game's organizations like the Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, and Mages Guild.
The Elder Scrolls Online is set in the expansive world of Tamriel and offers an ever-evolving storyline that can be experienced either solo or in the company of friends. The game is available for the PC via Steam.
