Donkey Crew announced that more than 1 million units of Bellwright have been sold. This is a big milestone for the studio considering that this medieval open-world survival RPG is still on Steam Early Access.

Bellwright was launched in Early Access back in April 2024. Since then, various content updates have been released for the game. The biggest update was the Maiden Voyage, which introduced the new Halmare Isles map, estimated to be about 25% in size of the original game. The region has at least 10 square kilometers and offers new story-based quests having multiple progression lines. There's also expanded armor and equipment, new animals and buildings. The same update also introduces a Loyalty & Faction system.

Talking about this latest milestone, Creative Director and Project Lead Florian "Chadz" Hofreither shared in a statement that this milestone is proof that the studio is "on the right track" when it comes to the development. He added that seeing all the feedback serves as "the best reward" for all the hard work they've done.

Bellwright puts players in the role of someone who's been living in the shadows after being framed for the murder of the Prince and then sentenced to death by the Crown. After escaping an attempt on their life, they manage to get their hands on the assassin's contract. However, this only raises more questions than answers. To learn more about the answers, players have to head back to the very place that they've left. As they try and learn more about the secrets about their family, they get to lead a rebellion against the oppressive Sovereign of their homeland.

What makes Bellwright exciting is that players don't become a hero overnight. Instead, they'll need to work their way up from a small camp and all the way to leading the great rebellion. Players have to improve the relations they have with the settlements while also growing their armies. It doesn't hurt to free the different regions from the Crown and strengthen the cause. Players also get followers that have unique knowledge which can improve the technologies of the towns.

For those who want to test their skills, get Bellwright on Steam now.
