Test Your Memory with Pairs & Perils

They say that the sharpest weapon you have is your mind. You get to test that with the rogue-like dungeon crawler Pairs & Perils. The game is now available on Steam. It’s being offered at a 20% discount until February 4.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward and all you need to do is memorize the cards that's one the table. You then need to pair heroes with their corresponding weapons and attack enemies. However, you'll need to avoid traps. That's because these not only deal damage but result in you skipping your turn. By the way, enemies have their own attack counters which decrease with each turn and thus bring them closer to attacking.

Building the Deck

At the end of each battle, you'll need to drop by the Merchant's Goods. That's because this is where you can buy new relics and consumable cards. Relics are cards that have passive effects and are triggered when certain conditions are met. Consumables meanwhile are those that can be used to help you in battle. The key is to try different builds and find one that works for you.

Beware Your Enemies

In the game, enemies can have special abilities that they can use against you. These can include stealing your gold or even taking those items that you've worked so hard to obtain. There are even enemies that can spawn skeleton cards on the table. They're sure to push you and you'll have to use every aspect of your wit to come up with effective strategies and win.

It should be noted that each playthrough is different. This means that not only are the relics and consumables generated at random, but also the enemies. It makes you feel as if it's your first time playing. In addition, the rogue-like architecture provides for endless surprises and you'll never know what you will find in the next room.

Of course, as you progress, the encounters are going to become increasingly dangerous.
