The new Cosmic Companions update is now live in Abiotic Factor. The highlight is the introduction of Pets 2.0 which improves the pets system. With the overhaul, the pets system now allows players to tame a wider variety of pets. They can raise them to get stronger and even bring them out into the field to support expeditions as powerful Companions.
Pets 2.0 adds a new equipment slot known as Companion Pet Slot. Pets that are placed in this slot are equipped with a stylish and functional companion collar that keeps them stable in a "downed" state if they take what would otherwise be lethal damage. This way, players can have their companion help them as they face dangers but at the same time don't have to be afraid about them being in mortal danger.
There are also new advances in chemistry which allows for Peccary Taming. How it works is that once tamed, the loyal beasts fight by the side of the players. In addition, there are certain variants that can even produce harvestable resources on a semi-regular basis. By the way, a new Chemistry System has been introduced which you can read more about here.
Hotbar Slot
The change now also allows all pets to be picked up so long as they have a free hotbar slot. In addition, players can also pet them while holding them. Basically, it means that a pet can go anywhere a scientist can go. It even includes Peccaries.
Pests can now be thrown directly into battle from the hotbar. If the companion slot is empty, they’ll conveniently be equipped as a companion as they spin violently towards enemies.
Pet Feeding
Pets 2.0 also results in all tamed pets being able to eat any food a scientist can when they’re hungry. There are rare cases when tamed pets eat stuff scientists normally can’t. To feed the pets, all players need to do is simply offer them the item the same way they would a fellow scientist. If the item can’t be offered, it can’t be eaten by pets.
Each time they feed a pet, they’ll gain EXP towards a level, similar to the scientific skills. Every level a pet gains increases its health, damage, and even size. The more nutritious the meal, the more EXP the pet gains from it.
