Developer Unfinished Pixel announced that its upcoming title Blightstone is launching on Steam Early Access in 2025. This dark and tactical roguelike RPG that introduces unique twists to combat through freedom of character placement, interactive environments, and hardcore resource management.
A Hope in Darkness
The game is set in a world where darkness has fallen. A magical rift has opened where demons and dark forces have come out and has corrupted everything they come into contact with. As the inhabitants flee, the land is pillaged and destroyed. There are however a few safe havens remaining. In addition, it appears that all is not lost. A new turquoise-colored mineral has appeared which seems to have the power to stop the plagued blight from its relentless spread. These results in a new party of heroes teaming up to secure this precious resource, extract its power, and fight back against the corruption that covers the land.
New Combat Experience
In Blightstone, players get to engage in grid-free turn-based combat. It's one where environmental awareness and preparation plays a significant role. In each encounter, party members need to be strategically positioned for them to not only take advantage of their surroundings but also overcome the odds against relentless forces and the pervading dark corruptions.
Failure is Okay
As the insidious plague spreads across the rifted world during combat and at nightfall, players need to manage their resources and equipment if they want to survive. While few are sure emerge victorious in their undertaking, it's important to know that failure is crucial to that eventual salvation. Earthglass shards gathered from failed runs for example fortify the guiding Crystal and strengthen future adventurers while also pushing heroes onwards for another chance at victory and freedom.
Full of Possibilities
In the game, players can experience deep tactical combat in alive scenarios full of possibilities. For example, they can choose from a wide range of combat active and passive skills. These include melee, ranged, area of effect, delayed powerful skills, interruptions, traps, on event triggered skills. There are also skills to summon characters and ones to control other characters. However, the thing is that these abilities are available not just to players but also enemies.
Players can also take advantage of the interactable environmental hazards and objects. There are also weather elements which can affect the battle sore players need to carefully read situations and strategize their every action. The smart use of the environment or weather effects can turn the tides of battle at the last minute.
