ANDI-Land is a computer adventure game where the player solves simple puzzles through conversation with artificially intelligent characters.
Players use the arrow keys to guide an avatar through a forest landscape. The forest is inhabited by ANDIs, which are virtual people with artificial intelligence that equips them with a basic understanding of their environment.
The game play is based around natural language dialog. An interactive parser guides players while they type sentences on the keyboard. The ANDIs interpret English sentences and translate them into logic. Using automated theorem proving technology they are able to find answers to questions and reason about commands. This makes it possible to use dialog to elicit information to solve puzzles and carry out actions such as buying and selling objects.
ANDI-Land‘s artificial intelligence replaces pre-scripted dialogs with (limited) conversation that is generated on the fly. Rather than selecting between canned sentences, players have to figure out for themselves what to say to whom.
