Core Keeper is a mining sandbox adventure game with procedural generation where players take on the role of explorers who awaken in an ancient cavern of creatures, resources, and trinkets. The players need to mine relics and resources to build their base, craft new equipment, and power up the Core. They must also discover hidden secrets, farm crops, cook new recipes, and explore the vast underground cave of endless resources.

The game offers players a chance to delve into living biomes, fight cavernous creatures in a vast subterranean system, and scour the dark world around them to encounter underground behemoths. Customization is available in the game, through which players can craft new items, armor, and equipment to venture further into the caves.

In Core Keeper, players also need to tend their crops to grow a variety of plants by planting seeds found during their adventures. The game allows players to combine the yield of their hard work farming and fishing in the cooking pot to discover delicious recipes with unexpected effects.

The game allows players to survive alone or play online with up to 7 other players. They can work together to mine resources, fight, farm, craft, and survive. Each player can specialize in their role to help their fellow explorers tame the unruly landscape they find themselves in.
