Darkmoor Hold is a fantasy-themed roleplaying game with adventure elements for the TRS-80 CoCo.

In an era destroyed by the knowledge of the Renaissance, magic and its like were common and adventure was a way of life for many.  Yu are a mercenary, one of those who gains fortune by fighting for those who would rather not.  Recently, the Wizard of the Moors has come out from his self-imposed solitude.  It seems that he has stayed too long within his hold and is in need of entertainment.  As a result, much of the populous has been lost.  The ruler of this area, King Baccinus, has looked upon this turn of events with disfavor as the famed necromancer is killing his beloved taxpayers.  Therefore, the king has sent for you, believing that only you and your comrades can win your way into the Darkmoors and defeat the dark Wizard.

The player controls 3 characters, an elf, a human, and a dwarf, who are given independent commands each turn.  The dwarf is a good fighter, while the human is more resistant to damage.  The elf can perceive things the others can not, and has spell casting ability.

The player moves through levels with the direction commands, and each area is graphically displayed on the screen.  On each level, the player must find a weapon, an item of defense, and a treasure, and then find the stairs to descend to a lower level.  The player can descend sooner if they choose.  Characters level up and are healed the first time they descend a level.  Monsters become progressively harder every time they descend a level.  There are 10 levels in total, with the Wizard at the bottom.

There is a save and restore feature, and all commands are via text entry.
