Dungeon Hunter: Curse of Heaven is an entry in the Dungeon Hunter series designed to run on low-end Android smartphones. Unlike the last three games in the series, it’s a paid premium title and not free-to-play with in-app purchases. The game’s story takes place during the events of Dungeon Hunter 4 and Dungeon Hunter 5 with the player taking the role of a sibling of Syrann, one of the antagonists of Dungeon Hunter 5. As the survivor of a massacre perpetrated by the forces of King Leandro, the player takes on a quest for vengeance.
Like other entries in the Dungeon Hunter series, the game is a hack-n-slash action RPG played from a birds-view perspective. A virtual pad is used to move the player character around the screen while buttons are used to activate attacks, use skills and consume health potions. Two different weapons can be equipped at a time and quickly swapped during combat. There are weapons both for close combat (dual blades, greatswords) and ranged attacks (crossbows, staffs). It is also possible to equip up to three skills which give magical abilities.
The game contains 24 missions that can be accessed from a world map. Each map can be played in three difficulties although only the easiest is initially available, the others have to be unlocked by completing further missions. In each level, there is a portal that when entered starts a challenge where enemies have to be defeated in certain circumstances. There is plenty of loot to collect. Each item has a level that can be increased by fusing it with other items. Once an item has reached its maximum level it can be evolved to a higher tier. All items and enemies can be one of five elements (water, fire, nature, death, light) with each element having a bonus against another element. For example, a water item does extra damage on a fire enemy.
