Fallout: Pip-Boy is a companion app for Fallout 4. It allows players for both PC and consoles to use a smartphone or tablet while playing as the real Pip-Boy in the game with the same functionality. It can be used both offline and online. To use it during gameplay it needs to connect to the game while both the device and the game are online and on the same network. Once connected, actions done on the Pip-Boy done on the device immediately translate to the game world on the other system.
The Pip-Boy is used to view the character’s statistics, skills, perks, weapons, apparel. It can also be used to access the game map, read the quests or listen to the in-game radio. The five holotape games that are found in the game world can also be played directly on the device when they are discovered. The five available games are:
- Atomic Command: a Missile Command clone
- Grognak the Barbarian and the Ruby Ruins: a text-based RPG
- Pipfall: a Pitfall! clone
- Red Menace: a Donkey Kong clone
- Zeta Invaders: a Space Invaders clone
