Throughout history, magicians explored the truths of our world. They explained the phenomenons that science could not explain. On the other hand, scientists controlled the evolution of technology. To safeguard humanity’s progress, both the magicians and the scientists founded an organization called Chaldea. From the middle of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century, they invented devices that helped mankind. One of them was a device that predicted the near future. One day, in 2015, the device announced that the humanity will end in 2017. The explanation behind this calamity was a town not marked on any map in Japan, back in 2004. Chaldea scrambles to assemble the best warriors to travel back in time to reverse this catastrophe, in order to search for the Holy Grail, in a ritual known as Grand Order.
Unlike its smartphone counterpart, Fate/Grand Order Arcade is a real-time team battle RPG and trading card game. Players assemble a team of servants to battle against monsters or other servants in a PvE campaign or in PvP arena battles. Players need to have the Sega’s Aime card to register their profile with the game. Upon registering, they receive their first servant in a card form. The arcade machine is capable of producing cards and can read up to 30 different cards simultaneously. The battle system shares its mechanics with the smartphone version: players select up to three servants to fight, as well as any cards that enhance their stats, and battle against enemies. Except now, all the action is done in real-time. Players wander around the battlefield, battling monsters through various stages. At the final stage, they battle against a boss. Upon victory, players receive items and resources that they can use to level up their characters. They also get a chance to receive either a card that has a servant (“summoning a servant”), or a card that can augment stats. There are resources that, when reaching a certain number, would allow the player to receive up to 10 cards simultaneously. However, for each card, players need to have a coin (100 yen) ready to perform such a task.
