RPG Gamers summary

Frameland: A Binary Tale throws you into an unknown, post-apocalyptic world, where humanity teeters at the brink of extinction, threatened by relentless swarms of machines. This new RPG, packed with old-school nostalgia from its pixel-based graphics and 16-bit music, tells a gripping story from two perspectives and promises intense moments with its timed turn-based battles.

Set in the once thriving world of Condorra, permanently ravaged by a catastrophic event eleven years prior, the game centralizes on the lead character, Ryiu. Having been mysteriously transported from his serene hometown of Hammertal, Ryiu has no memory of how he wound up in the harsh, foreign landscapes of Condorra.

Throughout his journey back home, Ryiu must form allies, who might hold the answers to his puzzling situation, all while contending with those that harbor sinister motives and strive to keep the truth hidden.

The gameplay mechanism in Frameland: A Binary Tale emphasizes strategy and precise timing. Players need to unleash powerful attacks, block incoming damage, and increase the effectiveness of their items, all of which require perfectly timed button presses. Moreover, exploiting an enemy’s weakness and careful resource management are paramount to progress through the game.

Customizing one’s play style is also encouraged through the use of ‘Remnants’, mystical artifacts that power up characters and confer unique abilities, drastically swaying the outcome of battles in the players’ favor.

Despite being a fairly short game, boasting 6-8 hours of playtime, Frameland: A Binary Tale is said to be rich in content with no filler elements. The story is intricately woven and presented from two diverse perspectives, offering plot twists along the way. Also featuring over 40 unique 16-bit music tracks and carefully crafted pixel art, the game emulates a classic RPG aura.

The game map will showcase all enemies, allowing players to strategize encounters and surprise attacks, or avoid them completely if preferred. And for those who find comfort in companionship amidst chaos, look out for the chance to pet dogs, organically or otherwise.

Set to be released on Windows and Mac in 2023, Frameland: A Binary Tale will offer both English and German language options. This game seems like a mix of nostalgia-packed RPG adventure that doesn’t shy away from exploring dark themes, whilst introducing unique gameplay elements - certainly one for fans of the genre to watch closely in the coming months.
