Hurry Fox MSX Special is a remake of the original Hurry Fox featuring a new style of gameplay. The story follows the same basic beats: a mother and her kit live together in the Romulus forest, but her kit tragically comes down with a rare disease. She remembers a story she’d heard that eating aburaage from a certain shrine has the ability to cure this rare disease, so she sets out to try and find it.
This time around, her journey is presented more like a Japanese-style RPG. Players control the mother from an overhead perspective on a scrolling map like in the then-new Dragon Quest, while interactions with other creatures are presented via graphical cut-ins taking up part of the screen. The text parser is gone, and players instead interact with other creatures through menus and multiple-choice selections. Aside from puzzles, players can also fight certain creatures in RPG-style battles too. A few dungeons abandon the overhead perspective for first-person dungeon crawling like in other computer RPGs of the time.
