Jak rozpetalem druga wojne swiatowa: Nieznane przygody Franka Dolasa utilizes an unusual RPG scenario: is is set during World War II. It is licensed from the Pen & Paper system Weird Wars and the Polish movie series Jak rozpętałem drugą wojnę światową. During a passage near Norway the hero and his assistant get attacked and need to flee on a ice floe. Later they get picked up by a German submarine which thinks they were Gestapo agents. Here they learn the Nazis are searching for a mystical wonder weapon - of course this means the player has to find it first…
The gameplay is similar to the classic Infinity-games: the player explores his surroundings which is presented in an isometric perspective. The fights are in real-time but can be paused at any time to issue commands to the party members. There are also many (mostly unvoiced) multiple choice dialogues where the player needs to carefully think about choices - bad decisions can lead the game to an unwinnable state. There the game also tries to insert the movies’s humour.
The player only creates his main character, all other party members are recruited on the way. He has the choice between seven classes, e.g. blacksmith, cook or drunk, which all have different abilities and uses. He also distributes points to more traditional character stats like strength or intelligence; these can also be improved after level ups when gaining enough experience points by solving quests and killing enemies.
