Nimble Quest is an action RPG with the game mechanics of the classic game Snake. The tutorial level even shows an old Nokia phone as a point of reference.

The player picks a leader hero from a list (small at first, but will get bigger as the player unlocks more by playing the game), and is off to slay monsters to earn experience, money and companions. The heroes are constantly walking, and the player controls the where by swiping the screen in the desired direction. Attacking enemies happens automatically once the party gets close enough. Each hero uses their own type of weapon (short range, magic, arrows, bombs etc.), so learning how to face the enemies will be key to survival. Defeated enemies will drop gems (money), items to give bonuses or aid the player temporarily as well as additional heroes to add to the lineup. The money earned each playthrough can be used to upgrade the random items dropped to increase their effectiveness, as well as put towards leveling up the heroes.

Much like in the game which inspired it, the party will die if it collides with walls, enemies or themselves. On top of this, each hero has a health bar which depletes when they get attacked by enemies. Picking up dropped potions will refill it, but once a hero falls, it’s gone from the party and has to be replaced with another one found around the levels. The goal in the game is to defeat enough enemies to fill up a bar at the top of the screen. Doing so will award a gem bonus and take the hero to the next level screen. Before each level starts, there’s the option to buy status increasing items or additional heroes using Tokens, a type of rare premium currency.

The leader hero will earn experience points over the course of the game and can be powered up once the meter fills up to increase such things as attack speed, strength and more.

The game features an Arena area, where players can form guilds to beat time limited quests together to earn items and gems.

A more unusual feature is the inclusion of a Face Cam in the game which is included in recorded replays if the player chooses to share them.
