Phantasia is an early MUD for a variety of Unix systems with a distinct Lord of the Rings theme. Each player creates a character by selecting a class, and starts in a random location somewhat close to the coordinates of 0,0. Players may then explore, fight monsters, fight each other, gain experience and collect treasure throughout the land.
There are several general goals in the game. Collecting a crown between levels 10 and 1000 allows a player to be crowned King, and lord over or collect taxes from other players. Players reaching level 3000 become members of the Council of the Wise and may then teleport, cause interventions on other players, and search for the Holy Grail. Finding the Grail advances the player to the position of Valar, which grants them further options.
