Relics: The Recur Of Origin is a remake of Bothtec’s original Relics which expands the story of the original game and models the gameplay after CRPGs such as Diablo.
Utilizing an isometric viewpoint, the combat occurs in real time and the spirit is controlled via a mouse. Players start the game as the spirit and need to find a body to possess in order to progress and survive in the game. As soon as the first body is possessed, possessing alternative bodies can be done by killing them.
Depending on the body possessed, players may acquire different abilities and special skills, long range attacks, more health and inventory items that can be carried. In addition to that, each possessed character has 4 attributes: Fire, Thunder, Holy and Demon which influence a character’s resistance to attacks of these attributes.
The game adds a bit of tactics as characters of the same factions, whether they are Marx, Animals, Aliens, Heaven, Hell or the mysterious Horror faction will not attack those who belong to their tribes. It also features multiple endings depending on the choices made by the player.
As for the plot, once upon a time, a lone spirit was traveling through space and after ages of travel, losing its physical body it wandered onto a blue planet. It had no idea what had attracted it to that planet. During its travels, the spirit lost one important thing: its memories.
The spirit was at a state close to extinction and noticed strange ruins on the planet’s surface and there were several living creatures near these ruins. “If I could acquire the body of that life form…”, the spirit thought and with these thoughts it descended towards the ruins to possess a body and extend its life.
