The Elder Scrolls Travels: Stormhold (2003)

Game Details

The Elder Scrolls Travels: Stormhold is a first-person dungeon crawler RPG.  The player finds himself in Stormhold, a prison run by the lunatic Quintus Varus and the goal is to defeat the warden before he can fulfil his mad plans and free the prisoners. As the player explores the corridors of the prison he will come across enemies that stand in his way. These can be fought in combat by attacking with weapon or casting a spell. Actions in combat require fatigue and when the player gets tired he is a less effective fighter. To restore fatigue, health and magic, the player can choose to camp. If the player is defeated in combat, he does not die. He just loses some equipment and is resurrected at the starting point.

The player also comes across NPCs which he interact with using a number of different commands. This include giving gift items, befriending and threatening. By doing this the player can affect the amount of aid each NPC gives. Certain NPCs can also heal, bless and enchant. By finding gift items the player unlocks more dungeons that can be explored.

Before starting the game, the player gets to choose one of the seven available classes. These are barbarian, battlemage, knight, nightblade, rogue, sorcerer and spellsword. Each of these has different skills. The RPG system is similar to that of other Elder Scrolls games. The player has a number of skills which he earns experience for as they are used. The player levels up after ten skills have been increased. A skill can also be improved by meeting one of the game’s four trainers.
