Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar is a role-playing game set in the Ultima universe. Britannia is threatened by a plague named “Black Weep” which causes monsters to appear. This leads Lady British to call the Avatar in order to set things right. The game is set in a persistent world and the instanced dungeons (the only places with combat) can be tackled with up to four Avatars, but in the end it is possible to beat everything alone.
The player is either a mage or paladin which influences the standard attack and what special abilities are unlocked with level ups. Each virtue is represented with its own experience bar which rises by solving quests, killing enemies and giving answers for moral questions which may pop up from time to time when talking to non-player characters. So the Avatar moves around, receives the usual MMO quests (find and/or kill x) and fights enemies in dungeons: the player only needs to choose an enemy which is then automatically attacked. The only other interaction is using the special ability (there is only one slot available) or potions (dropped by monsters) from the inventory. Only when a certain level is reached, the player can progress the story.
The currency is keys which are earned in-game as quest rewards or by finding new locations: bronze (common), silver (eight bronze keys can be exchanged for one silver key) and gold (rare and otherwise only available via micro-transaction or by watching in-game advertisement). They are mainly used to open chests which are found in dungeons and cities - as they are no shops, this is the only way to get better equipment. The usefulness of the found items depend on the used keys; of course one needs to use golden keys for good results. It is also required to use silver keys for repairing degrading equipment (golden keys are needed to repair everything at once). Other uses for golden keys are unlocking more inventory slots or slots for more active abilities.
