Game Details

James’s father used to work for a corporation, but got fed up from greed and other perceived bad social tendencies. He fled to a small village so his son can grow up in peace. However, after a few years, disaster happens: the animal population grows weird and a boy dies during a pie eating contest. Following that, the father sends James - still a young fellow - into the world towards the big city. While the enemy design is humorous - most of them are pun based, e.g. the Baseball Bat is a bat which carries a bat - the story and dialogue focuses on serious themes like the evil of science, gluttony or religion.

The game itself is a traditional, 16-Bit Japanese-style RPG. The player walks around, collects party members and fights enemies in turn-based combat. While moving in hostile environments, the battles occur randomly and switch to a separate battle screen with the options attacking, defending, using an item or using a special skill which cost SP (which work exactly like mana points). The skills are physical only and there are no tactical options like status ailments or buffs. Combat rewards experience points or money; the latter is used to buy better armor or weapons. It is not possible to sell items.
