The player is a wizard apprentice who has to face the final test: surviving the Dungeon of Dracanus and its 15 levels. The focus lies on the turn-based battles which initiate when the player runs into one of the monsters which inhabit the dungeon. However, the catch is that the player’s captured monsters do the majority of the fighting: after defeating a monster, it can be added to the monster collection. While said collection can be large, only three monsters can be brought into battle. Each turn starts with the player who can use one of the offensive or healing spells, change the active monster, use an item or skip. After that the monster (standard attack or abilities) and the enemy attacks. The enemy always attacks the monster and if the whole battle team is dead, the game is lost.
Both the player and the monsters are assigned a class which influence their abilities. The player character and the used monsters earns experience points which - in the case of the player - eventually can be used to improve the four statistics. However, capturing a monster makes a significant dent in the experience reward. The second resource is gold (collected after battles or directly in the dungeon) which is used to upgrade the wizard staff with gems. These give useful bonuses and can be purchased in the shop which can reached through the teleport spot at the start of each level (also allows to save the game). Each level ends with a boss battle.
