Xiao Ao Jiang Hu 2: Wu Yue Jian Pai is based on the book The Smiling, Proud Wanderer by the Chinese writer Jinyong. The hero is Ling Huchong, a young man who studies martial arts according to the system of Huashan school. Lately he has been often seen spending time together with the lovely Ren Yingying, who studies a different style of fighting, which involves magic spells. His teacher, Yue Buqun, gets angry because he considers such style impure. He attacks the young people and expels them from their homeland. And that’s only the beginning of their troubles, for there are many other martial arts schools and a great rivalry is developing between them…
The game is not a direct sequel to Xiao Ao Jiang Hu; unlike that game, it is a turn-based role-playing game in Japanese style. Characters can execute a wide variety of physical attacks and magic during the battles, gradually building up a special bar that will allow more powerful attacks. They can also block enemy attacks and need precise timing for that. Otherwise, the gameplay system is similar to Japanese RPGs: traveling on the world map, visiting locations, fighting random enemies and bosses, managing the party, etc. The game utilizes real-time 3D graphics.
