One night, an ordinary Japanese teenager named Ryo sees a strange dream… in this dream, a second moon appears on the sky. The next night, Ryo realizes that it was not a dream. Nobody can explain the mysterious appearance. But it has a strange influence on human beings and other creatures, eventually driving them mad. While walking through a forest, Ryo encounters a girl who asks him to build a team of fighters, help her fight the monsters spawned by the moon, and reveal the truth behind this phenomenon.
Yoru ga Kuru! Square of the Moon is a dungeon-crawling RPG. The primary gameplay consists of exploring maze-like isometric dungeons at night. Some enemies may attack the player-controlled party suddenly, but most of them are visible on the screen (though they don’t move). The turn-based battles are viewed from first-person perspective and use a very simple engine. Regular and special attacks can affect a single enemy or an area. Between dungeon exploration, the player returns to the “hub”, where he can combine items to make new weapons and accessories, train the hero’s parameters and abilities, and select the party members for the next dungeon trip.
Extensive “text-over-picture” cutscenes advance the narrative. There are scenes with explicit nudity and sexual situations.
