Yumina the Ethereal is a JRPG / visual novel hybrid and the follow-up to Aselia the Eternal. Yumina is a student failing school, and to alter her grades she decides to become head of the Student Council. In order to do so, she must win the Student Council Wars - a bizarre election where candidates must gain support from fellow students and then debate their rivals.
However, those debates are actually turn-based battles, with characters shouting ‘arguments’ as they strike. Your party can hold up to four characters, where one will stand in front while three others will remain in the back and give support or counter-attack the enemy, depending on their skills. Outside battles, the game plays like a visual novel, with heavy emphasis on dialog and allowing you to decide how to spend your time in school each day - talking with characters, battling or visiting areas.
Later you’ll also have access to a virtual world, where you can explore 3D random dungeons in first-person mode and fight fantasy enemies such as orcs, demons and dragons. The game is extremely long and complex, being over 50 hours long, with multiple paths and endings. It features a few erotic scenes as well, but mostly optional.
