The action RPG "rogue ‘em up" Absolum is set to be launched this year. It's going to be available for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch.
The game is being developed by Guard Crush Games (Streets of Rage 4, Streets of Fury EX) along with Supamonks and Dotemu (Streets of Rage 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge). Dotemu also serves as the publisher.
For the developers, the vision for Absolum is twofold. This first is to have a thrilling arcade beat ‘em up action game that has refined combat which offers a rewarding level of depth. The second is innovating the brawler design conventions that results in maximized approachability and replayability.
The game combines arcade-like melee combat with spells, counters, upgradable abilities and uniquely powerful playable fighters. It offers an original and refreshing reimagining of the depth and fun that beat ‘em up gameplay
In a statement, Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert revealed that the game is likely their "boldest creation" event. He added that the ultimate goal was to evolve the potential of the genre in a way that can be described as truly unique from the traditional brawlers that players have come to love.
An Engaging Narrative
The game offers an engaging narrative that's filled with themes of foiling an unbridled, dictatorial power and even cheating Death itself. It's set in the world of Talamh where a cataclysmic event caused by magic has resulted in the Sun King Azra using brutal warfare and slaughtering any wizard unwilling to serve him to conquer all lands and sources of.
Hope now lies through a defiant band of rebels who are aided by a mysterious and mythical mentor known as Uchawi and the similarly powerful Root Sisters. Together they oppose the Sun King's pursuit of total power by wielding an ancient and forbidden magic. These mythical forces empower the rebels with astonishing magic as they stoke a resistance and fight Azra's iron grip on Talamh' Along the way they discover the secret behind Azra’s ever-growing dominion.
