A new update has been released for Wartales. Community Update 5 brings some interesting improvements to the game. Players should also be happy to know that adjustments have been made to the game's morale meter.
Developer Shiro Games revealed that in the game, the idea behind Morale was to speed up the battles. The closer players are to victory, the more powerful their mercenaries become. According to the studio, as the maximum level was increased over time, the morale formula no longer met its role properly. This has resulted in large groups of enemies taking longer to defeat.
In computing the team morale gauges, it was based on Willpower. With the level of the enemy increasing, the original calculation resulted in a diminishing impact on morale, especially versus high-level enemies.
The new update to Wartales introduces a new way in calculating morale. The enemy Willpower has been set to 18 at max level instead of 15 at level 5. In addition, the level of units in combat no longer has an impact on the computation. Instead, killing enemies one after the other results in slightly less morale though raises the Willpower to have a greater impact.
The studio revealed that the changes should speed up the progress of battles especially when it involves large numbers of units. When it comes to the late game, morale should now have the same impact it had in the early game previously.
Crossbowman Class
Community Update 5 of Wartales also makes balance changes to the Crossbowman class. Now while the reception to this class was good, the studio said they felt there was still room for improvement. In particular, it appears that this class starts to be really interesting when it reaches level 8, the time when the reload mechanic becomes available.
The change has the passive skills swapped from level 8 to level 5 in the skill tree. This should unlock the potential of the class earlier in the playthrough and lead to more creative gameplay.
