Good news for console players! Chornobyl Liquidators is now available on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. It's being offered at $19.99. The release to new platforms should allow for a wider audience.

The game was first released in June 2024 and made available for the PC. This immersive sim game is inspired by the real-life nuclear disaster that took place in Chornobyl back in 1986. It was when the reactor of a nuclear power plant exploded and resulted in the release of massive amounts of radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere. To solve the problem, individuals known as liquidators were sent to the site. Despite the danger, many of them did what was asked at the expense of their own health and even their lives.

Historical Accuracy

There's been a lot of video games that's focused on this same disaster. Chornobyl Liquidators brings something unique to the table. That's because it focuses on historical accuracy. What this means is that players won't fight against mutated creatures or explore anomalies. Instead, they get to experience the actual consequences of a nuclear plant reactor failing. The game is able to reproduce accurately the events and even the language. It also does the same when it comes to the locations and documents. Players even get to use tools and items that were available during that particular time period.

There's no question that this is indeed truly impressive. This is made possible because the developers made use of different archival photos and documents. They also made use of exhibits coming not only from museums and private collections. That's not all since the developers also made use of the memories from individuals associated with the events.

A Unique Experience

To ensure that the experience of the players is truly unique, the developers didn’t just settle on offering a high degree of realism. They also made sure to incorporate elements found in simulation and survival games. These include specific mechanics or status effects.

For example there’s the in-game stress mechanic. This one serves to represent the mental and performance state of the protagonist. How this mechanic works is that the more players are exposed to stress, the harder it becomes to complete the quests. In severe cases it can lead to a heart attack and in turn result in death. To lower the stress level, players can use consumable items like cigarettes or chocolate.

Ready for a different gameplay experience? Chornobyl Liquidators is also available for the PC via Steam.
