Developer Frostisen Studio announced that a demo of its upcoming title Eydigard is making its debut during the Steam Next Fest this February. This cooperative RPG is set in the hauntingly beautiful fjords of Northern Norway and draws on Norwegian and Sámi folklore. The demo introduces key mechanics that include shapeshifting into powerful animal forms, exploring cursed farmsteads, and battling supernatural threats in post-plague Norway.
The Eydigard demo offers players a first look at the game's hauntingly detailed world which starts with the Klubbvik region. This hands-on experience highlights the different features of the game like strategic combat, shapeshifting mechanics, and folklore-rich storytelling. During Steam Next Fest, players can also tune into live developer streams that feature gameplay deep-dives along with insights into Eydigard’s development. There are also discussions about the game's cultural inspirations.
In a statement, the studio shared that the game reflects their passion when it comes to combining the cooperative playstyle that it is in Valheim with the folklore-rich depth featured in The Witcher 3. The game is inspired by the “camaraderie and emergent moments” that’s present in multiplayer adventures. The game introduces immersive storytelling with cultural authenticity to modern RPGs. This allows for a truly uniquely engaging experience.
Eydigard is set in Northern Norway during the tumultuous early 16th century. It’s a time when a devastating plague has ravaged the land. It has resulted in once-thriving farms becoming abandoned and haunted. This has also allowed mythical creatures to claim the land.
Players take on the role of a mysterious mercenary shapeshifter. They’ll have to navigate treacherous political waters and fight against folkloric creatures in order to restore balance to this fractured fjord. As a shapeshifter, they have the power to transform into different animals with each one having unique abilities. Along the way they’ll carve their own path through this haunted fjord.
