Independent game developer Chase the Bunny announced that Tails of Fate is coming out in December 2026. The game is going to be available for the PC and the Nintendo Switch 2. It offers a beautiful hand-drawn 2D action-adventure metroidvania that's combined with that old-school RPG charm along with modern and dynamic combat.
The game features three playable characters with gameplay mechanics that are unique to each. Fans of the metroidvania genre are sure to enjoy the level of variety and replayability available in the game. It's also worth noting that the main theme and score for the game was made possible through composer Yuko Komiyama, known best for her work in titles like Monster Hunter, Mega Man X, and the FINAL FANTASY Pixel Remaster series.
Kickstarter Campaign
The crowdfunding campaign for the game through Kickstarter has actually managed to reach its goal just within hours of being launched. Indeed, as of this writing the campaign already has pledges exceeding $70,000 from a goal of around $44,000. Even then there's still time to support the game since the campaign ends March 7.
Stretch goals include additional DLC and additional console ports, to name a few. Backers can get a copy of the game for about $24, with digital and physical art books and soundtracks, exclusive demo builds and skins, and mega cute plushies. In a statement, the development team at Chase the Bunny revealed that when they worked on the game, they wanted a Metroidvania where the choice of the players shaped “not just combat but the entire journey.” The team shared that they took inspiration from other titles like Castlevania and Hollow Knight.
Tails of Fate is set in a time where furry creatures on the outskirts of Fauna lived in harmony. However, the rings of conflict have started through a bizarre sequence of events unfolded from the dark. The game itself follows Reynard, Varken, and Koal, as they go on a journey to save Fauna from its perishing fate. Along the way they make new friends, fight against epic foes, and overcome hurdles in their path as they seek the truth.
