It's been almost two weeks since Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn was launched and made available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X/S. Developer A44 Games announced that the game has managed to reach more than 500,000 players. In addition, the studio revealed in a statement that it's currently on the Most Popular lists not just on the Xbox Game Pass but also PC Game Pass in different regions.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is the latest title to come from A44, the same studio responsible for Ashen. This Souls-like game features elements of gunpowder and magic and then puts players in an epic fight for the future of humanity.
Defeating the Gods
The game is set in the lands of Kian where the city of Dawn is now on the brink of destruction. Players take on the role of Nor Vanek. This elite member of the Coalition army is on a mission to defeat the Gods as well as close the Door to the Great Below in an attempt retake the world. Joining him on the journey is the fox-like companion Enki whose magical powers can enhance Nor’s combat and traversal abilities.
The Vengeful Gods
Going back to the Gods, these vengeful beings are the main threats especially after they were released to the world. They’ve been causing chaos along with the demise of mankind. To confront the gods, players need to travel across the devastated landscapes of Kian and make use of Enki’s magic.
It’s All About the Combat
While the game does remain faithful to its Souls-like genre roots, it offers something new by introducing rapid mobility to allow for dynamic and explosive combat. The gameplay in particular encourages rhythmic battles to allow players to weave together melee, gunpowder, and even magic to create that deadly dance of combos. In addition, the gunpowder abilities of Nor give opportunities for verticality which lets the character to either deal death from above or recover quickly from danger.
Aside from combat, the game also encourages players to discover new equipment as well as fortify weapons. They can even upgrade gear before they go on a final showdown against the Gods.
Overall, the game promises a thrilling experience as it weaves together unique combat mechanics, immersive storytelling, and of course, immersive world-building. You can get Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn on Steam now.
