A free demo of Dread Neighbor is now available on Steam. This upcoming 3D first-person psychological horror game was developed by the Chinese indie studio Ghostcase.

In the demo, players start to uncover the core mystery and experience how psychological pressure intensifies through exploration. They slowly realize realizing that what lies ahead may be a truth deliberately buried.

Core Concept

The core concept design was made possible by renowned Chinese horror creator Dajisi. The game continues to studio's exploration of psychological pressure and immersive storytelling. This one is centered around the theme of "malice born from being watched." The game invites players to step into a seemingly ordinary daily life that slowly begins to unravel.

Ghostcase had previously released Dread Flats, which multiple content creators praised as "the scariest game of 2025." For Dread Neighbor, the studio made sure to preserve the signature first-person immersion while at the same time refine further the visual fidelity, narrative pacing, and cinematic presentation. All of these to deliver a more subtle, grounded, and realistic psychological experience.

Living Along

Dread Neighbor has players take on the role of a young woman who's living alone and working in the city. To save money, she moves into an old apartment building. It's cheap, secluded, and unnervingly quiet. At first, her life follows a familiar routine which is taking out the trash, feeding the cat, commuting to work, going to sleep. However, subtle abnormalities begin emerge. There are gaps in the wardrobe, shadows beneath the bed, holes in the walls. Each of these seem to conceal an unseen presence. It never reveals itself outright, yet it never leaves, slowly eroding any sense of safety.

Better Immersion

Compared to Dread Flats, Dread Neighbor shows a noticeable step forward across multiple aspects. It features more detailed 3D visuals with the use of lighting, spatial design, and environmental detail. All of these to create a convincingly realistic living space.

The game also employs a progressive loop structure which is that similar scenes repeat though there are subtle changes each time. The leaking fluids, watching eyes hidden in walls, unexplained traces, all accumulate based on the actions of the players. It gradually pushes emotions toward imbalance. Instead of relying on sudden extremes, Dread Neighbor forces players to realize, loop by loop, that the space they inhabit is no longer safe.
